Canada has temporarily prohibited foreign nationals from travelling to Canada in light of COVID-19. However, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has created an exemption for certain Temporary Foreign Workers who are coming to Canada to be employed in critical industries.
“Critical” or “Essential” Workers
Foreign workers seeking to enter Canada must demonstrate that they are employed in critical industries, such as health care, transportation services, emergency services, agriculture, or food processing.
One must self-identify as being an essential worker to airlines at the point of boarding by showing a valid work permit or a letter of introduction from IRCC.
These provisions are subject to frequent change, and further considerations must be considered for those travelling from the US. In addition, the issue is highly context-driven and will be at the discretion of each airline enforcing these new guidelines.
