Under Canada’s existing laws for Family Sponsorship, a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident can sponsor a spouse, child or parent to become a permanent resident in Canada.
Parent / Grandparent Sponsorship
The 2019 Parents and Grandparent sponsorship program opened on January 28, 2019 for expressions of interest. The online form closed within minutes and there are no further expressions of interest being accepted for 2019.
Sponsors who were able to submit an expression of interest may receive an invitation to apply. If you receive an invitation to apply, contact our office to learn the next steps regarding your application. If you were unable to submit an expression of interest or do not receive an invitation to apply, there are still ways to have your parent/ grandparent stay with you in Canada. Contact us to discuss additional options.
Spousal Sponsorships can be submitted at any time if the sponsoring spouse is a Canadian citizen. If the sponsoring spouse is a permanent residence, then he or she must be physically present in Canada in order to submit an application.
Sponsored spouses or partners must live together in a legitimate relationship with their sponsor for two years from the day they receive permanent status in Canada.
Applications for spouses can be submitted as either overseas or in-Canada, depending on the location of the spouse being sponsored and other significant factors. To better ensure an application will be successful, numerous documents are needed to prove the genuineness of the relationship to the satisfaction of an officer.
