IRCC has announced the long-awaited reopening of its Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). Between October 13 and November 3, 2020, Canadian citizens and PRs who wish to sponsor their parents and grandparents will be able to submit an online interest to sponsor form.

This process will operate as a lottery, where IRCC will then randomly select potential sponsors and send them an invitation to submit an application. The completed application must be submitted within 60 days of the invitation.

In light of the financial challenges posed by COVID-19, IRCC has temporarily reduced the income requirement for the 2020 tax year to the minimum necessary income instead of the minimum necessary income plus 30% (as is required for earlier years).

IRCC has committed to processing 10,000 applications for 2020. This number will increase to 30,000 for the 2021 intake.
