Canada’s Express Entry application process offers opportunity for eligible skilled immigrants to settle permanently in Canada.
Candidates for Express Entry are ranked using a points system. One receives points for a variety of factors, including age, education, language proficiency (English and/or French), and Canadian work experience. Applicants can also earn points in other categories, including points for their spouse or common-law partner, adaptability factors, and for an arranged employment offer or a provincial nomination.
The Express Entry program allows people from all occupations to apply. Potential candidates can complete an Express Entry profile at any time. Note that there is no deadline to complete a profile and there are no caps on the number of candidates that will be accepted to the pool.
Once a person submits their Express Entry profile, it will be entered into a pool or database of applicants for review and potential selection. If your application is selected, you will be issued an “Invitation to Apply”. Until very recently, Express Entry applicants had 90 days to complete their application for permanent residence. However, that deadline has been shorted to the original 60 days provided. In those 60 days, one must apply for Canadian permanent residence under one of the following programs:
It is very important to note that after being offered an invitation to apply under the Express Entry program, applicants must still meet the criteria of the program they are applying under.
