If you or someone you know has been detained by CBSA for reasons relating to an immigration matter, you should be represented at the upcoming detention review by counsel. You must be granted a review within 48 hours of detention, and then if still detained you will have another one in one week and then once a month until either you are released from detention or removed from Canada.
Reasons for detention often include CBSA’s inability to determine your identity, if you are considered a flight risk, or if you are a danger to the public. Release from detention can be arranged with the presentation of a suitable bondsperson who will ensure that the person to be released will comply with all imposed conditions.
