The Canadian government has recently announced its decision to significantly reduce citizenship fees for applicants under 18 years of age. This announcement sees the citizenship fee reduced from $530 to $100 for minor applicants.
This decision is part of the government’s recent changes to the Citizenship Act that have allowed minors to apply for citizenship on their own behalf. Together with the fee reduction, these amendments are meant to encourage immigrants to apply for citizenship.
The government has advised that applicants who paid the $530 fee on or after June 19, 2017 will be reimbursed $430. Those individuals will be contacted directly by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
