Under Canada’s existing laws for Family Sponsorship, a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident can sponsor a spouse, child or parent to become a permanent resident in Canada.
Parent / Grandparent Sponsorship
IRCC announced on July 20, 2021 that the 2020 Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) will be accepting up to 30,000 additional applications. IRCC’s announcement states that it will be providing invitations to apply beginning on September 20, 2021 and continuing over the course of two weeks. As with previous years, IRCC is using the same random selection process, but for the 2021 invitations, it will be drawing from potential sponsors who have already submitted their interest to sponsor form.

Spousal Sponsorships
Spousal Sponsorships can be submitted at any time if the sponsoring spouse is a Canadian citizen. If the sponsoring spouse is a permanent residence, then he or she must be physically present in Canada in order to submit an application.
Sponsored spouses or partners must live together in a legitimate relationship with their sponsor for two years from the day they receive permanent status in Canada.
Applications for spouses can be submitted as either overseas or in-Canada, depending on the location of the spouse being sponsored and other significant factors. To better ensure an application will be successful, numerous documents are needed to prove the genuineness of the relationship to the satisfaction of an officer.
