If you need to make a claim for asylum or refugee protection once you are inside Canada, it is recommended that you contact our office for assistance prior to making the claim. Before you appear at a Citizenship & Immigration Canada office to make an inland claim, you will be expected to have completed the Basis of Claim form which summarizes the reasons and details of your claim. There are also several other forms and applications that have to be completed and submitted at the same time. It is very important that these forms are completed in a correct and accurate manner as you will be questioned regarding the contents at the oral hearing of your claim.

Under Canada’s new refugee system, you will be given a hearing to assess the merits of your claim within 30-60 days after making the claim, depending on your country of origin. If approved, the PR processing can take several months.
